Eventually on your keto journey, you’re going to ask, “Are there any breakfast options other than eggs?”
If you’re looking for an alternative to eggs and bacon for a keto breakfast, here it is: Collagen-Loaded Chocolate Chia Pudding with Chocolate Whipped Cream.
You’re welcome.
Keto Convenience Foods
There aren’t many keto convenience foods on the market. The ones that are can be pricey. Thankfully, this is changing as more people switch to a ketogenic lifestyle.
This breakfast uses two keto “convenience foods”, HighKey Snacks’ Cinnamon and Spice Instant Hot Cereal and Perfect Keto’s Chocolate Keto Collagen, which is more of a supplement than a “food”. I love it because it’s a quick and easy way to get chocolate flavor and the benefits of collagen into other foods.
HighKey Snacks Instant Hot Cereal
This is a hot chia pudding, with lots of other good stuff in it. The ingredients list hemp seeds, coconut, sunflower seeds, whey protein, pecans, erythritol, monk fruit, chia seeds, flax seeds, and cinnamon and spices, and collagen.
I tried it. Nutrition was excellent. The taste was a little bland. I personally would have wanted more cinnamon and spice.
Here’s what I liked about it:
- Only has 1 net gram of carbs per serving.
- Used minimal water to cook.
- It cooked very quickly.
- Shelf stable.
I appreciate that this hot cereal is a shelf-stable, keto food. It uses minimal resources (water and heat) to prepare. This appeals to the prepper in me that stockpiles food for the zombie apocalypse, or more realistic emergencies, like power outages.
(For those who didn’t know I am a prepper, check out my books, Prepper’s Natural Medicine and Prepping for a Pandemic.)
Perfect Keto’s Chocolate Keto Collagen
Perfect Keto’s Chocolate Keto Collagen is a hydrolyzed, grass-fed bovine collagen mixed with MCT powder. According to the product’s website, this is Type I and Type III collagen, which is beneficial for skin, hair, nails, and joints.
This collagen powder dissolves in both hot and cold water, with a lot of stirring. I have tried many hydrolyzed collagen powders. I think this the best tasting and easiest to dissolve. I’m a chocoholic. Keto Perfect’s Chocolate Keto Collagen allows me to let my inner chocolate freak out to play, without feeling guilty.
This particular hydrolyzed collagen also has MCT oil powder. I use MCT oil as cooking oil and for salad dressings. But, if I use too much, my stomach gets crampy. I find MCT powder to be significantly easier on the stomach, while still getting all the benefits of medium chain triglycerides.
Collagen has been a major part of my keto-based recovery plan. With the amount of weight I used to carry, my knees have taken a beating. My PCOS, underactive thyroid, and type 2 diabetes led to hair thinning and dry, slack skin. I will follow up with posts dedicated to how I have been reversing my hormonal hair loss and improving my skin elasticity.

This could easily be made in larger batches and prepared ahead of time in the fridge. For that, fill individual 8 ounce containers (I use these 8oz Pyrex cups or these 8oz jelly jars). Fill them with the cereal and collagen powder, add water, and stir. Add the whipped cream, and store in the fridge.
You won’t be able to reheat this with the whipped cream added. The whipped cream will just melt, and sadness will follow. If you want a hot cereal, leave off the cream and reheat, uncovered, in the microwave. Add the whipped cream just before serving.
